Autumnal Vibrance

Our part of the country has been blessed by an incredible autumn season, with the trees retaining colorful leaves for a longer period than normal. While this could all end any day with high winds or a hard freeze, it has been a mesmerizing show of colors that leaves me in awe. The backlit trees, made possible by the early morning and late evening sun, almost appear to glow as if on fire.

Not to be outdone, the young trees, shrubs and brush combine to create a spectacular mix of vibrant colors, made even more intense by the rays of the low sun.

Even viewing a single leaf up close gives testimony to an impressive complexity that we often take for granted.

Very soon the lingering leaves will fall to earth and find a way to disappear, leaving a stark, bleak reality behind. And then the cycle starts over again in the spring.

The Psalmist wrote, “For You, Lord, have made me glad through Your work; I will triumph in the works of Your hands.” Psalms 92:4.  And he goes on to write, “O Lord, how great are Your works! …A senseless man does not know, nor does a fool understand this.” Psalms 92:5-6.  Our Lord has created what we call ‘nature’ for our use and enjoyment. He wants us to take the time to appreciate what He has made, and to use it as a reminder to exalt Him in all things.
